I've always been an artist but my life has taken me in many different directions... After several years in
Art school, I entered the wonderful world of full time work. I've worked as a union carpenter,
general maintenance worker, construction worker and finally for the past 18 years a programmer and
web designer (all self taught, learn as you go..). Creative thinking has helped me in all of my endeavors
but my "work" has never completely fulfilled my need to create. In the spring of 2006 I took a class in pottery
and have re-discovered clay...
I enjoy working with clay and I am often surprised by the result of meandering through the process of creating.
There are many times I set out with a plan to make a particular shape or item, but when I am through
I have something that is completely different than what I intended. I love to experiment with shapes and
textures, working the clay until it is transformed into something unexpected. I like cracked clay, textures
and earthy results. I prefer to keep the shiny stuff (bright colors and glossy glazes) on the inside while
keeping the texture and the shape as the main focus of the piece. The pots I make are hi-fire stoneware
(cone 10); they are waterproof and food safe. Everything I make will be one of a kind, there will be similar
pieces but I do not track what I have done, I do not use/save patterns so the next piece will never be the exact shape,
size, height, color, texture, or combination of these attributes. I hope I can continue to create for a long time,
I hope you will find something to enjoy looking at or using in some way in your life.
