Tom Abel is a ceramic artist who loves working with clay and is often surprised by the results of his efforts. There are many times he sets out with a plan to make a particular shape or item of pottery, but when he is through he has something that is completely different. Tom likes to experiment with shapes and textures, working the clay until it becomes something that looks good to him. Tom likes cracked clay, textures and earthy forms in his ceramics. Tom prefers to keep the texture and/or the shape of the pot as the main focus while adding the shine (bright colors and glossy glazes) to the inside of the pot as a surprise to the viewer. The ceramic pottery Tom Abel makes are hi-fire (cone 10) stoneware, his ceramics for the most part are are waterproof and food safe...
